Safety Guide

Solid Printers is a community marketplace connecting buyers and sellers. While we provide the platform, transactions happen between individuals. Here's how to stay safe.

▸ General Advice

  • Inspect before buying — ask for a demo or photos of the printer actually running. Request close-ups of the build plate, nozzle, and any mods.
  • Use secure payment — cash in person, or goods-and-services PayPal / e-transfer. Avoid wire transfers, gift cards, or cryptocurrency with strangers.
  • Trust your gut — if a deal feels too good to be true, it probably is. Walk away.

▸ Spotting Scams

  • No photos or stock photos only — a real seller should be able to take a current photo of their printer with a handwritten note.
  • Pressure to act fast — "someone else is interested" or "price goes up tomorrow" are classic urgency tactics.
  • Asking for deposit upfront — never send a deposit for an item you haven't seen in person (or verified through a trusted intermediary).
  • Bad grammar or generic messages — copy-pasted replies that don't reference the specific listing are a red flag.
  • New account with no history — check when the seller joined and whether they have other listings or reviews.

▸ For Sellers

  • Be accurate — describe your printer honestly. Disclose known issues, wear, and estimated print hours.
  • Include photos — listings with images are 5x more likely to sell and build trust with buyers.
